In 1902, Banner Elk's first lawyer, Thomas Lowe, made
the founding family's Bettie Banner his bride after 15 years of
courtship. 1902 Turnpike House was the Lowe's first and only home, and
their only daughter, Fairie Belle, lived here her entire life. There are
many stories, historical, cultural, and sometimes comical, connected to
this 111 year old, fully restored mountain estate. Through the years it
has always been a welcoming gathering place for family, friends and
special guests.
